Letting It Go

You're hurt. So deeply. You're confused. Scarred so far beyond the surface, you begin to think that you won't ever be able to get over it. Frustrated. Angry. Sad. Simultaneously. Ultimately, it becomes a struggle to get through your day without tears and you keep yourself as busy as you can to keep from thinking about it. Disappointment is natural. Deep disappointment even more so because in life, we tend to get excited about different and new things in our lives. For example, your new job or internship and the like. And then there is that one thing... that oh so familiar excitement that you get from a new relationship. We have high hopes and expectations for these things to work out and we put our all into it only to have it turn into something that what we didn't expect it to be; one big 'ol let down. Complications are born and those little suckers breed more complications which lead to an infuriating whirlwind of emotions. And when the dust settles, you're left with a host of questions, the first being, "wait, what just happened?" That's where the confusion begins, because you may not be able to detect what went wrong. This person has became such a part of your everyday life, it's hard for you to imagine what you used to do before they came into the picture. Here comes the heartbreak....And the heartache. Love is funny. You swear up and down that you don't need it to survive but, when it comes and goes, you realize that it is an intricate part of life. So take a moment. A few moments, even. Break out the Kleenex and the candy bars. Listen to 112's "Cupid", and Mariah's "Always Be My Baby" on repeat. But you've got to get up, dry your tears and brush your shoulders off. The true test of character doesn't come from the way you fall down, but the manner in which you get back up. And for whichever reason the situation did not work out the way you wanted to, you've learned and gained from this experience. You've grown and have become a wiser individual. It's time to let go. Life goes on. And you'll make it.
